I have to admit it's been rather depressing laying on my side and waiting for my back to recover slowly and all I have been doing is just sleeping and eating.

But what is more interesting is that my Taiwanese department boss phone me from California on Wednesday to tell me that I should take Thursday and Friday off so I can recover properly.

Now maybe in a western environment this would be quite normal behavior. But this is Taiwan and you must work at any cost! I was quite surprised he allowed me to do this and seemed generally concerned about my welfare, what a great guy.
