After Marks wedding I was on my way to Georg place for a coffee and I happen to see this rather striking red running all the way up the top of the balcony combined with a very conservative geometry.

Cardboard Dubs

I saw this very close to where I live in Jhonghe I was trying to see if I could take any short cuts to the dry cleaners on the high street, as I walk down one of the small lanes it eventually opened up. Where I found one of the residents had attached cardboard square to the rim of there car. What was more amusing was that they were not even alloys just stand clip in plastic rims.













I am thinking whether I should draw some alloys for them on the cardboard.

I also like this photo of the steel door accompanied by green roof moss and a small collection of bricks by the door to the right.

Let's Roll

Here I am at Taoyuan International airport just waiting to board the plane to Hong Kong and then home to England, I can't wait to leave and see my family. I am just think about what an incredible time I've had on this amazing island.

I rather liked all the cargo trolleys lined up outside face the baron landscape.

Designer Flu

I have caught a cold, I think it's probably because I have been over worked recently and and missing home, which is not a great combination!

I decided to have a day off and get some much need sleep, interestingly on my way to the doctors this morning I noticed that the local builders were using the equivalent of an Ox Harness to take builders sand up the narrow stair ways which are very common in the old style Taiwan apartment like mine.

More efficient than a bucket and I suppose faster too.

Also my trip to the doctors was fantastically fast and efficient it cost 150 NT which is about 3 pounds to see the doctor this also included the medicine they give you as well.

Hyper Structures

Ok maybe the tile is a bit exaggerated but this is something which I find always amazing when you can see a building at this stage in the build process, I love it you can see everything go on, how it's built, the inner frame etc.

I do hope when they get to doing the outer surface they use an interesting library of materials and not just pebble dash concrete along side non transparent windows, which I can't stand.

I love the blue construction lifts hanging of the sides, and how they are all evening aligned at the top.

Hydraulic Silhouettes

I've noticed this a lot on my travel around Taiwan and every construction site or builders yard I go past all have the Cranes, Cherry Pickers or Fork lifts, with the hydraulic arms extended out all the way. Which is an odd thing to do, because over time the pressure naturally weakens from the hydraulics forcing the arm to come down any way.

Plus for a country which received a lot of rain, especially in Taipei it would make sense to cover as much of hydraulic arm from the natural elements as you can, maybe it is an odd safe saving technique.

When I find the correct photo I'll change it!

It is quite an interesting site when the sun goes down as and all you can see are the silhouettes of platforms or digger buckets behind an orange sun, not that this photo is the best example above as these are cable Cranes.

Memphis in Taipei

I have no idea what DABS 1 CHEK means? At first I thought they were old factory graphics, but after looking at the photo a bit longer I think it might be a graffiti artist tag! But I kind of like how he or she has not over blinged the style and it blends in really nicely with the building and actually adds charm.

I haven't taken any photos of buses in quite a while so I thought I would take a photo as I was on the fly over, and I kind of liked the orange roof of the bus.

Cigarette Vandalism

On the front of my bike I have a basket which looks more like a trash can, which does actually collect other people plastic bottles, I suppose it’s better than them been disregarded on the side of the road.

 

What I like in this picture is how someone has strategically placed there cigarette packet on the back of my bike. I think it quite an interesting place for someone to leave an empty packet of cigarettes rather than on the floor, does he/she feel less bad they left the packet on my bike rather than the floor I wonder?

Power Me

Before I leave Process I've been taking photos of various things I have seen on my way to lunch which I liked the look off.

I photographed this fuse box, close to the Dirty Tiger, I really like how the power sockets had just been left attached and not protected from the elements, along with everything else which look seemly unsafe!

I really liked how these cleaning mops had been placed, as they reminded me of wigs.

I like the angle of the broom too.

Film Crew Invasion

Well we left work early today as a film crew pitched up to shoot an advert, I am not sure who it was for but the was a rather attractive celebrity sitting in the kitchen down stairs, I am sure I’ll have more details on Monday from the rest of the gang.

Nice simple solution.

But I have to say the film crew was pretty impressive within the space of about 20 minutes the entire floor of the office was cover in white plastic foam sheets and studio lighting complete with chaps running around with cameras and light meters, so it looked all very professional.

Not for Wimbledon.

I liked how the crew had cut open and attached tennis balls to the feet of the lighting tripods. I imagine too protect the floor from getting scuffed by the black rubber feet!

Urban Camo

Hopefully I’ll be buying a bike this weekend from wholesale and I might have to apply the Taiwan Urban Camo effect to my new wheels. The array of black dots which you see over scooters and bikes is to stop the various parts from be stolen while your ride is locked up outside over night.

I loved all the different colours of these A4 sheets at night which were been backlit by fluorescent light.

I spotted this disregarded foam over the weekend in a car park opposite Rocco’s car. They had obviously been thrown away what was nice was the fact that they had kind of taken on the shape of huge snow flake.

I think it’s really nice how the end of this drain pipe has been finished so simply.

I also thought this collection of plastic garden pots below had a little charm about it too.

Urban Charm

I really liked this dilapidated building it had a real charm about it. What was interesting was you could see the layout of the building from where a previous structure had once been.

I also thought this worn out security login was really interesting, apart from it had been completely weathered by the outside elements, I liked how the right hand row of numbers was missing, was 369* the code to open the door?

Visual Everyday Engineering

I haven't been as observant to my environment as I normally am mainly due to the fact that I have been listening to music on my MP3 player when out and about.

After a visit to the library yesterday, I picked up a book by Andrew Burroughs, called Everyday Engineering and it got me thinking again about objects beyond there obvious worth.

Observation Rewind

I have attached some photos of observations that I have noticed throughout this weeks.

I love this it's such a great pose. But what I like is how the bike tripod is down on the left but he is using the bollard on his right.

Observation Rewind

Since I have been in Taipei, I have been far more observant of my surroundings. I think this is probably down to the fact that I can’t understand Mandarin so when I hear it it’s just background babble.

I have started to home in more on my environment than I normally do, Most of the observations I have spotted are to do with problem solving and I suppose looking at objects beyond their obvious worth.
