Electric White

Yesterday I went to a hugh rave in the Taipei Exhibtion Centre we all had to ware white and it's was wicked fun. They had some great DJ's and a really nice crowed of people.

I am only writing about it because it's a big event which was held at the Taipei exhibition hall which is located in the exclusive Xingi district. The venue was pretty good fun and I didn't get home until 5am so I am feeling a bit under the weather and tired today. Now will follow a couple of blurrly mobile photos!

The Gathering!

1 Year On Away From Home

Wow it's been 1 Year to the day since I was last in England, I was so close to making it the whole year in the Asian block but I fell short by just a few days.

Life: A lot has happen over the year, and a heck of a lot has happened in the past six months. But I have spent my time with amazing people who have taken me too visit fantastic places and have been truly wonderful and kind to me. Especially Rita who was just simply great and very supportive!

Work: I've been lucky enough to worked with some amazing design offices in Taipei from DEMinc 橙果設計, Process to AmTran 瑞軒科技, which is where I am working now.

It's been a real eye opener to how things are done out here and I had a steep learning curve which is still getting steeper!

Traveling: I've managed to visit Lanyu (Taiwan, but still an island in it's own right) Thailand (Bangkok), Macau and now America (California).

Rita also took me all over Taiwan, which gave me one of the best insights and cultural experience I think anybody could ever get and I was extremely privileged and honored to of had such a wonderful experience.

Languages: I wish I could speak more Chinese, but then I have not made enough effort to improve, I did find it tricky but I really want to improve now.

Music: I suppose my end of the year away from home song is going to be Steinski - Let's get it on

Oasis in Taiwan

This Friday evening I went to go and see Oasis with Jonny and a few other of his mates. It was in the Nangang exhibition centre, which was a bit of a mission to get too after work as the concert started at 7.30 pm.

I have to admit Oasis venue was a bit of a disappointment, not knocking the band they were cool, but the venue was useless and the Oasis tour management should of picked a better place.

First of we could not really hear them properly so they didn't sound very loud, it was an almost surreal experience, I can only describe the volume control as hearing music coming thought the other side of a wall, but seeing a band up front playing away.

They did have an awesome lighting rig!

Nole I think?

This lack of volume was because the Nangang center in a rectangular shape and acoustically rubbish! So this made it a bit of a disappointment. The second thing was they got us in late, as they were slow counting the tickets. 

Oasis had already started playing by the time we got there. All in all I definitely wont be shelling out 1500 NT again to see any type of band play at the Nangang centre again!

Blue Note

Slightly lazy Saturday relaxing and working on my portfolio. In the evening we met up with two of Rita friends for dinner, and ended up going to a Taipei Jazz Cafe afterwards.

Which I wasn’t so keen about, as I imaged it would be smokey, dark lit and we probably wouldn’t be able to find a seat. The music was just ok, the first 7 minuets were good, but after that the band sounded quite repetitive.

When I got back I realized it was the perfect time to make Skype phone call home to the parents to see what was happening in the old empire.

Super Original

Jonathan had asked me out to see the Originals play at a bar called The Living Room located in Nanjing, it was rather difficult to find and I spent lots of time walking backwards and forwards in the rain, but completely drenched and 35 minutes later I had arrived.

I am pleased to say that the band was rather good to beginning with, but they had completely lost the plot by 12.

K-TV

This was karaoke night to celebrate Leo's birthday, who is one of Rita's work colleagues at Amtran. I have to admit after two hours I had completely gone nuts listening to J-Pop videos. But then finally I got my chance to add a few songs to the list, going thought the dated English classic’s I happened to see Gun & Roses, Paradise City.

Oh yes it completely killed the mood, but I had to play it, I thought is was really funny that I had been listening to people singing Taiwanese songs to do with love and missing your girl friend and the Guns & Roses tune was to do with drugs, fags and booze.
